How To Survive A Plague
(David France, 2012)
This Oscar-nominated film tells the story of two groups, Act Up and Treatment Action Group, whose activism and innovation turned AIDS from a death sentence into a manageable condition. Using previously unseen footage, David France highlights how a group of relatively inexperienced individuals took on major pharmaceutical organisations to help speed up the development of drugs and change the course of modern medical history.
This screening will be introduced by Dr Monica Pearl, Lecturer in 20th Century American Literature at the University of Manchester
