The Sexuality Summer School has been held annually by the University of Manchester since 2008. The Sexuality Summer School is coordinated by the Centre for the Study of Sexuality and Culture (CSSC) with sponsorship this year from Screen, Manchester Pride, the Cornerhouse, Contact Theatre, artsmethods@manchester, and the Faculty of Humanities at the University of Manchester.

The Summer School is an annual event intended for postgraduates and researchers working in the broadly defined area of sexuality studies. The Summer School addresses current debates within queer studies, emphasising in particular its implication for the interdisciplinary study of culture. It offers an opportunity for students to discuss queer debates with researchers in the CSSC as well as international scholars brought in for the event. Applications welcome from Doctoral and Masters’ level students from any university. The Sexuality Summer School is directed by Professor Jackie Stacey, with other CSSC staff members including Professor Laura Doan and Dr. Monica Pearl.  For a full CSSC staff list see the main CSSC website.

Registration for the 2013 Summer School: Queer Imaginaries will go live at http://estore.manchester.ac.uk on March 1st 2013.

  1. Hi,
I am forwarded the info abt this summer school by our centre. I am very keen to attend the same. However, I am very curious to know is there a chance to get any scholarship or funding for attending the same? I don’t have any financial assistance at the moment!

    1. Hi Maheswar, great to hear from you. Unfortunatelt we operate with a small budget and so can’t offer bursaries. Our reasonable fees – £65 early bird for 4 days including a ticket to lois weaver’s performance – are reflective of our wish to be as inclusive as possible. Obviously it’s difficult given that this isn’t a traditional conference where you’re called on to give a paper – but student participation in discussion is a huge part of the summer school and as a course that really develops key research skills, you’d be in a good position to put a case for funding to your university – several students have been successful in the past.
